The new 752 km electric railway line now officially starts its commercial operations and links Addis Ababa (the capital of #Ethiopia) to #Djibouti (a key trade hub to Asia, Europe and the rest of Africa) in a game-changing 10 hours!
The line across East Africa covers 752 km, 45 stations and a total investment of about 4 billion USD. With the red, yellow and green trains, travel speed can be up to 120 km per hour and with CRRC Times Electric independently developed train operation monitoring device, the “Black Box”, there is a high-end technology framework to ensure safety and improved efficiency for operations.
As the first modern electrified railway in Africa we can not only see a great beginning of fruitful projects of the Belt and Road Initiative, but also a successful cooperation between China and Africa.
We aim to speed up the development of the countries and hope that this project can contribute to the industrialization and diversification of the local economies.
#Ethiopia is one of the fastest growing economies in Africa, however landlocked. Transport time now is reduced from 7 days on the road to only 10 hours on rails, significantly enhancing logistic efficiency.
